Saturday, July 30 Boundary Rotary will hold its annual golf tournament. The club has been hosting this event for over twenty years and for golfers and those who only attend the dinner it is a pleasant afternoon activity. The event is one of the club’s two main fund raisers that allow Rotary to support a number of local US and Canadian and international initiatives including the Haskell Library, Camp Massawippi and Camp Coutts Moriarty and Border Minor Hockey. year to mark the passing away of long time Rotarian, Don Patterson, the tournament was re-named in his honor.

Patterson exemplified the spirit of Rotary. He and his wife, Aline, participated in every aspect of the club’s activities. Don was President in 20022003. He and Aline helped to keep the bookstore in good order and regularly attended the sales. He and Aline were enthusiastic supporters of the Friendship Exchanges. Don was part of the hands-on projects Boundary has undertaken at Camp Massawippi and Coutts Moriarty helping the camps with spring clean-up or small renovations. He was always part of the team that cleaned and repaired the blue bird houses on the bicycle trail. He was a member of the Vocational Scholarship Committee which gives scholarships on both sides of the border. Always smiling and good humored, Don embodied the Rotary spirit of service. Boundary hopes that the Don Patterson Memorial Golf Tournament will keep this spirit alive in our community.
