Old Stone House Day
On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the annual celebration of local history will take place at the Old Stone House Museum in Brownington. The museum will be open for free self-guided tours from 11 to 3, including the new special exhibit in the gallery on Early American Decoration, with the newly acquired Rufus Porter murals.. There will be demonstrations of traditional skills, a farmers market, craft vendors, town historical society displays, music, a pie auction, and activities for children. Lunch on the lawn will be provided by the Brownington Ladies Aid. The annual meeting of the Orleans County Historical Society will be held at 1 p.m. This year's theme is the Brownington Grange Hall, which will have just been moved back to the site at the foot of Prospect Hill where it was built in 1823 as the Orleans County Grammar School. Bring in pictures and stories about all the community events that have gone on in this historic building during the time it was in the middle of Brownington Village from 1869 to 2016.
