Old Stone House Day

On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the an­nual cel­e­bra­tion of lo­cal his­tory will take place at the Old Stone House Mu­seum in Brown­ing­ton. The mu­seum will be open for free self-guided tours from 11 to 3, in­clud­ing the new spe­cial ex­hibit in the gallery on Early Amer­i­can Dec­o­ra­tion, with the newly ac­quired Ru­fus Porter mu­rals.. There will be demon­stra­tions of tra­di­tional skills, a farm­ers mar­ket, craft ven­dors, town his­tor­i­cal so­ci­ety dis­plays, mu­sic, a pie auc­tion, and ac­tiv­i­ties for chil­dren. Lunch on the lawn will be pro­vided by the Brown­ing­ton Ladies Aid. The an­nual meet­ing of the Or­leans County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety will be held at 1 p.m. This year's theme is the Brown­ing­ton Grange Hall, which will have just been moved back to the site at the foot of Prospect Hill where it was built in 1823 as the Or­leans County Gram­mar School. Bring in pic­tures and sto­ries about all the com­mu­nity events that have gone on in this his­toric build­ing dur­ing the time it was in the mid­dle of Brown­ing­ton Vil­lage from 1869 to 2016.
