Young farm­ers want “Pro­duit du Que­bec” la­bels to stick

The Syn­di­cat de la releve agri­cole is not happy with the change to Que­bec’s food la­bel­ing law by Agri­cul­ture Min­is­ter Pierre Par­adis. It is no longer oblig­a­tory for mer­chants to put a “Pro­duit du Que­bec” la­bel on Que­bec fruits and veg­eta­bles when they are sold in bulk at mar­kets or gro­cery stores. Ac­cord­ing to MAPAQ, the change to the law was made to make it eas­ier for mer­chants to sell ‘older’ pro­duce, lead­ing to less food waste.
