ast Call: 2016 Community eadership Awards Nominations
Time is running out to nominate exemplary community members who are making a positive contribution to the English-speaking community in the historical Eastern Townships for Townshippers’ Association’s annual Outstanding Townshippers (OT) and Young Townships Leaders Awards (YTLA). The nomination deadline for the two awards is noon, Friday, August 26, 2016.
“One of our greatest resources in the Townships are the people who are working, across a variety of sectors, to build a strong and vibrant community,” said Rachel Hunting, Executive Director, Townshippers’ Association. “With this being the last week to nominate someone for these awards, we hope the nominations come pouring in. We know there are many people in our community who are doing wonderful things in our community all year long. These two awards allow us to thank them for their efforts and serves to inspire others to contribute in a number of ways to their community.’’
Over the last 17 years, the OT award has honoured and recognized those people who have repeatedly and generously given of themselves, and in the process, have improved the English-speaking community. It is awarded to individuals, couples and groups, of any age, who have made considerable contributions - beyond the usual expectations of their job or profession, through volunteerism, social activism, mentoring, or philanthropy.
The YTLA has highlighted youth achievements, dynamism and involvement. Since 2005, more than 30 individuals and groups, from ages 15 to 35, have been given this award for proving themselves to be worthy role models, for other youth as well as adults, through actions or initiatives that demonstrate leadership. The awards will be given out at the 37th annual Townshippers’ Day opening ceremonies [TDay.ca] on Saturday, September 17, 2016, in Brome. The winner of the YTLA will receive the $1,000, thanks to the support of Canadian Heritage, Cass Funeral Homes, Champlain Regional College Lennoxville, Global Excel Management, the Lennoxville Youth Center and NAV Canada.
