Last Thursday, around 9:30 pm, the Sureté du Quebec was alerted about an armed robbery in a depanneur on the Vale Perkins Road, in Potton. At the site, the suspect asked for the money from the cash with a gun in his hands. The suspect then left without any money. The SQ received a second call a few moments later from citizens who had followed the suspect and made a ‘citizen’s arrest’ of a sort. The 26 year-old man appeared at the Granby Court House the following day.
Last Thursday, at the beginning of the afternoon, a dozen officers with the Regie de police Memphremagog and two investigators with the Sureté du Quebec took part in a search in a cannabis plantation on the Millington Road, in Austin, and in a residence in Bolton East. During the operation the police seized 273 cannabis plants between one and one and a half meters high and growing equipment and arrested a suspect at his residence in Bolton East. The 60 year-old man was released under condition to appear in court under the accusations of growing cannabis and improper storage of a firearm.
Also last Thursday, the RPM arrested a 67 year-old woman for drinking and driving. Because it was her fifth offense and her third breaking of conditions, she was kept detained to appear at the Sherbrooke Court House the next day. Her license was suspended for ninety days and her vehicle was seized. Later that day, around 6:40 pm, a 52 year-old man was arrested for the same offense on Merry South, in Magog and, just after midnight, a third arrest for drinking and driving took place when RPM patrollers saw a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on an exit of the autoroute. A 32 yearold man from Granby was arrested.
On Friday, around 4:00 pm on Comeau Street, in Magog, a 51 year-old man got physical with a woman over money. The woman had moved in with the suspect a few days before and wanted to leave. After being assaulted, the woman fled to a neighbour’s home. The suspect followed and threatened her again. The police were called and arrested the man for assault. Two drivers were arrested for drinking and driving, a man from Sherbrooke and one from the Beauce. On Saturday, around 12:30 pm, a driver backed up into a ditch on Principale West, in Magog, and tried to get out on his own. He didn’t want to involve the police for a reason, he didn’t have a license, the plate on the vehicle had been stolen in Ottawa and he had no insurance. The man had been released from prison under condition not to consume alcohol, but he had done this also. He was taken to the Sherbrooke prison.
RPM officers were out in full force for the beginning of school, on Monday, watching traffic in school zones at the stops, the pedestrian crossings, and for speeding.
