– Thieves escape through forest
OnSeptember 1st, at 2:30 in the morning, a witness called 911 after hearing a noise and seeing three people breaking into the Jean Coutu Pharmacy on St-Patrice West, in Magog. The witness saw the suspects leave on foot before the police arrived who then scoured the area. A suspect pick-up was seen on autoroute ten and when the police turned around to stop the vehicle, the two passengers had gotten out and headed to a forest on foot again while the driver was arrested. The stolen merchandise, perfumes and electronics valued at more than $15,000, was found in the vehicle. The Sureté du Quebec asked for assistance from the canine division to track down the suspects but they are still at large. The Regie de police Memphremagog is asking the public to transmit any information that might lead to the identification of the suspects at 819 843-3334 or at Echec a crime at 1 800 711-1800.
Also on September 1st, SQ officers from the des Sources and Val Saint-Francois MRC’s found and destroyed around five hundred marijuana plants in fields in the municipalities of Saint-Georges, Ham-Sud, Wotton and Saint-Camille. No arrests took place and the investigation is ongoing.
