Con­fer­ence with Ko­ri­ass

SEXed of Cham­plain-Len­noxville is pleased to an­nounce the fa­mous French rap­per Ko­ri­ass will be com­ing to Centennial The­atre on the cam­pus of Bishop’s Univer­sity on Thurs­day, Septem­ber 15 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Ko­ri­ass is a well-known, en­gaged and ap­pre­ci­ated artist. He has writ­ten four al­bums and re­ceived many prizes and nom­i­na­tions for his work.

His pre­sen­ta­tion is ti­tled: The Boys Club. Speak­ing from the per­spec­tive of a man from the Y gen­er­a­tion, Ko­ri­ass will ad­dress rape cul­ture and fem­i­nism for about 60 min­utes. He will talk about gen­der equal­ity, bring up his own per­sonal ex­pe­ri­ences, iden­tify and chal­lenge bi­ased pre­con­cep­tions of fem­i­nism and dis­cuss the no­tion of con­sent.

This con­fer­ence is part of the Sher­brooke-wide month fo­cussed on sex­ual as­sault pre­ven­tion and con­sent aware­ness tak­ing place dur­ing the month of Septem­ber. Many com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions and ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tions have joined forces to or­ga­nize var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties on this im­por­tant topic. Their goal is to sen­si­tize all cit­i­zens to these is­sues with the hope that the ini­tia­tives will cre­ate pos­i­tive cul­tural change and draw aware­ness to the im­por­tance of sex­ual con­sent and the pre­ven­tion of as­sault, cre­at­ing di­a­logue around these is­sues. This will be an op­por­tu­nity for ex­change and re­flec­tion.

SEXed is a peer-run sex­ual ed­u­ca­tion and well­ness ini­tia­tive. The group’s ap­proach a wide range of top­ics is sex pos­i­tive, non-judge­men­tal, in­clu­sive and pri­vate. The SEXed group is made up of pas­sion­ate and trained stu­dents, who or­ga­nize in­for­ma­tion cam­paigns, a re­fer­ral ser­vice, and safe spa­ces to ex­plore per­ti­nent is­sues, with the sup­port of a fac­ulty com­mit­tee.
