About fifty people attended a public consultation meeting in Hatley on August 22nd. The topic was a new zoning by-law for a section of the Bacon’s Bay area, known as “Ville 1”. “The aim of the by-law is to establish new rules for trailers that will allow the owners to make modifications to their trailers, to recognize their acquired rights,” said Hatley mayor Denis Ferland. Seventy-eight properties, all in a flood zone, will be affected by the new rule. “The meeting went well and there was no opposition. We worked with the Association de parc Tomifobia and the Association de parc Massawippi before making the by-law,” he added. Property owners cannot put in foundations under their structures in the area.

The mayor spoke about the project to create a Regie incendie for the whole area. “The objective of the new Regie is more administrative. Right now the fire services are managed by part-time employees. In a Regie there would be one full-time director to manage all the fire halls. We don’t want less firefighters or fire chiefs, but a better coordination of the services,” said Mr. Ferland.
