Sherbrooke athletes at Rio Paralympic Games
Wheelchair racers Diane Roy and Jean-Philippe Maranda, both from Sherbrooke, will be in action this week at the Paralympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro.
This will be the sixth appearance by five time Paralympic medalist Diane Roy in the Paralympics, and her last. Ms. Roy raced on Sunday in the 400 meter event, not her strongest, finishing in ninth in the preliminaries and not making it to the final. She raced in the 1500 meter final on Tuesday at 5:15 pm, finishing in sixth position with a personal best time of the season at 3 minutes 24.57 seconds. The heats for the 5000 meter women’s wheelchair race will begin this Wednesday while the heats and the final of the 800 meter wheelchair race takes place on Saturday, September 17th.
