Sher­brooke ath­letes at Rio Paralympic Games

Wheelchair rac­ers Diane Roy and Jean-Philippe Maranda, both from Sher­brooke, will be in ac­tion this week at the Paralympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro.

This will be the sixth ap­pear­ance by five time Paralympic medal­ist Diane Roy in the Par­a­lympics, and her last. Ms. Roy raced on Sun­day in the 400 me­ter event, not her strong­est, fin­ish­ing in ninth in the pre­lim­i­nar­ies and not mak­ing it to the fi­nal. She raced in the 1500 me­ter fi­nal on Tues­day at 5:15 pm, fin­ish­ing in sixth po­si­tion with a per­sonal best time of the sea­son at 3 min­utes 24.57 sec­onds. The heats for the 5000 me­ter women’s wheelchair race will be­gin this Wed­nes­day while the heats and the fi­nal of the 800 me­ter wheelchair race takes place on Satur­day, Septem­ber 17th.
