Province may forcibly take Springbank land
Alberta is looking at expropriating more than 3,000 acres for the Springbank diversion and reservoir without the environmental approvals it would normally need to construct the controversial flood mitigation megaproject.
As the province struggles to get the $432-million dam built on the Elbow River upstream of the city within the promised five-year time period, Transportation Minister Brian Mason said he has asked the province’s lawyers to look at forcibly taking land from reluctant owners before it has the required green lights from federal and provincial regulators.
