Why I bought it

Being in my 40s, I was around when the Sinclair ZX Spectrum took the gaming world by storm back in the 1980s. So when I heard that a new handheld console had been released that plugs straight into your TV and packs a thousand old Spectrum games, a lightbulb marked ‘nostalgia’ immediately switched on in my head!

What I like about it

The styling of the thing is very retro – taking it out of the box was like unwrapping a Christmas present in 1983! With so many old Speccie games to play, it’s been keeping me busy for weeks – and loading them is really easy (unlike the old days, when you had to wait a long time for the games to load, only for them to crash at the last second). I’ve really enjoyed playing games like

Horace Goes Skiing, Inca Curse and Atic Atac, and trying to beat my high scores from my childhood!

What I don’t like about it

For the money, you can’t really knock it – but if I had to pinpoint something I’ve been disappointed with, it’s the lack of two of my favourite Spectrum games, Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy. And some of the titles are undoubtedly filler – trying to interest my teenage kids is sometimes a challenge!

For less than £100, you get a lovely nostalgic experience – and the games are easy to load
