“One Pong (pound) of Saltfish and Come Straight Home” was his mother’s command and the title of an early section in this charmer of a book. An Ontario cook, De La Rosa pays homage to his childhood home of Trinidad and Tobago in these bright pages, though you come away with as deep an understanding of his early home life and Caribbean culture, as you do its food.
