ONLINE BUSINESS BOOMING IN CANADA
Canadian businesses sold more than $136 billion in goods and services over the Internet in 2013, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The report indicated that online sales rose from $122 billion in 2012 to more than $136 billion in 2013. Large companies, i.e. those with 100 or more employees, accounted for nearly all of the growth in the value of online sales in 2013.
Approximately 61% of sales came from the wholesale trade, manufacturing and retail industries, while the service sector’s share grew from 11% in 2012 to 13% in 2013.
The companies surveyed with the ability to sell online said that almost a quarter of their entire sales happened there. Meanwhile, almost half of all companies purchased goods or services online in 2013.
