Sec­ond mir­a­cle comeback falls three runs short for Amherst squad at Nova Sco­tia Ban­tam A championships

The Amherst Ath­let­ics al­most pulled off a sec­ond con­sec­u­tive mir­a­cle comeback, but fell just short los­ing the Base­ball Nova Sco­tia Ban­tam A cham­pi­onship game 13-10 to the Cole Har­bour Car­di­nals.

Trail­ing 10-2 in the fourth in­ning, the Ath­let­ics bats came alive and pulled to within three of the Car­di­nals go­ing into the fi­nal in­ning be­fore run­ning out of gas.

Ju­lian Mac­Don­ald hit a dou­ble and a pair of sin­gles in the game for Amherst while Zach Boudreau, Matthew Hunter, Kyle McCarthy, Nick Baigent, Cameron Baigent and Isaac VanSnick each hit sin­gles.

Ju­lian Mac­Don­ald and Ty Beed pitched in the cham­pi­onship game for the Ath­let­ics.

Ear­lier Sun­day, the Ath­let­ics were down 9-1 go­ing into the fifth in­ning when they ral­lied in fifth and sixth in­ning to de­feat

the Strait Area Sting 15-12 in the semi­fi­nal.

Jay­den Math­e­son started for the Ath­let­ics with Mad­den Miller

com­ing into the game in the fourth and hold­ing the Sting score­less in his fi­nal two in­nings of work.

Cameron Baigent and Jay­den Math­e­son each had three hits for Amherst while Zach Boudreau, Matthew Hunter, Kyle McCarthy, Ryan Ride­out and Ty Beed each had two sin­gles. Nick Baigent and Reece Mac­Don­ald each had one sin­gle.

Amherst opened with a 12-11 loss to the Strait Sting on Fri­day night in a game in which the Ath­let­ics bat­tled back from a 9-4 deficit to tie the game in the bot­tom of the sixth. Strait scored three times in the top of the seventh and the Ath­let­ics scored two in the bot­tom of the in­ning be­fore strand­ing the ty­ing run on sec­ond base.

Jay­den Math­e­son had three hits for Amherst in the game while Kyle McCarthy, Ty Beed, Matthew Hunter and Zach Boudreau had two sin­gles each. Ju­lian Mac­Don­ald had one sin­gle.

Ju­lian Mac­Don­ald, Nick Baigent and Mad­den Miller all pitched for Amherst.

In their sec­ond game, Amherst’s of­fence ex­ploded in a 15-0 win over the host Eastern Pas­sage Pi­rates.

Ryan Ride­out hit a triple and a sin­gle in the win with Ju­lian Mac­Don­ald and Kyle McCarthy each hit­ting three sin­gles. Mad­den Miller and Matthew Hunter each hit two sin­gles, Zach Boudreau dou­bled and Ty Beed and Isaac VanSnick each sin­gled.

Jay­den Math­e­son and Isaac VanSnick pitched for Amherst in the win.

Need­ing a win to get into the semi­fi­nals, the Ath­let­ics de­feated Cole Har­bour 5-3 on Saturday.

Matthew Hunter car­ried a per­fect game into the fourth in­ning be­fore giv­ing up a two-out sin­gle. Zach Boudreau and Mad­den Miller also pitched for Amherst.

Kyle McCarthy dou­bled and hit a pair of sin­gles for Amherst in the game while Matthew Hunter and Nick Baigent each sin­gled twice. Mad­den Miller, Jay­den Math­e­son, Cameron Baigent and Burke Beed each hit sin­gles.
