Fundy loses by one goal

The Amherst Fundy Youth Soc­cer Un­der-12 girls didn’t win their league pay­off game, re­cently hosted in Amherst, los­ing 2-1 to Dieppe, but they’ve come a long way since last sea­son.

“Last year we never won a game. This year we did way better,” said team cap­tain, 11-year-old Olivia Pa­triquin, af­ter the loss.

The girl’s play in the Eastern Soc­cer League, and this year’s team won 10 games, lost four, and tied three, fin­ish­ing third in the sev­en­team di­vi­sion with 33 points.

They are also a team with a split be­tween Un­der-12 girls and Un­der10 girls.

“Last year they scored four goals all sea­son,” said as­sis­tant coach Kate­lyn Walsh.

Rachel McNutt scored the lone goal for Fundy, and Marie Florence-Losier and Kayla Babineau scored for Dieppe.

“We played well,” said Pa­triquin. “We win to­gether and we lose to­gether.”

Only three play­ers will be grad­u­at­ing from this year’s team.
