Fundy loses by one goal
The Amherst Fundy Youth Soccer Under-12 girls didn’t win their league payoff game, recently hosted in Amherst, losing 2-1 to Dieppe, but they’ve come a long way since last season.
“Last year we never won a game. This year we did way better,” said team captain, 11-year-old Olivia Patriquin, after the loss.
The girl’s play in the Eastern Soccer League, and this year’s team won 10 games, lost four, and tied three, finishing third in the seventeam division with 33 points.
They are also a team with a split between Under-12 girls and Under10 girls.
“Last year they scored four goals all season,” said assistant coach Katelyn Walsh.
Rachel McNutt scored the lone goal for Fundy, and Marie Florence-Losier and Kayla Babineau scored for Dieppe.
“We played well,” said Patriquin. “We win together and we lose together.”
Only three players will be graduating from this year’s team.
