AMHERST – Bottled water could soon become a thing of the past at Amherst’s town hall.

Council passed a motion during its September meeting on Sept. 25 to refrain from purchasing bottled water for town hall and other townsponsored events where there is potable water available. In bringing forward the motion, Coun. Jason Blanch said Amherst will stand as a leader in the community when it comes to promoting public drinking water and building public confidence in the use of town drinking water.

“The use of tap water over bottled water conserves energy, reduces utilization of fossil fuels and saves money,” Blanch said.

Amherst spends, on average, $750 a year on bottled water.
