Vikings baseball capture District Championship
AMHERST – Brady Crowe was the game hero for the Amherst Regional High School baseball team at the 2017 District Championships Tuesday afternoon in Amherst.
With his team down 6-4 at the top of the seventh and final inning, Crowe came to bat with two out and bases loaded.
With a count of two strikes and one ball against him,
Crowe hit a base-clearing double high and long to centre field, putting his team up 7-6.
The Eagles were unable to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.
The game was the second of a best-of-three double header at Robb’s Centennial Complex.
Amherst won the first game 6-5. Game 3, if necessary, would have been played Wednesday afternoon in Amherst.
Game 2 Results:
The Vikings scored two in the second inning, two in the third and three in the seventh.
Crowe led the Vikings with a double and a single, and MacKenzie Comeau and Jackson Colborne hit one single each.
The Eagles scored four runs in the first, one in the third and one in the fifth.
Travis Parsons hit a triple for the Eagles, and Isaac Ford and Ryan Power hit one single each. Game 1 Results:
The Vikings scored two runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and two in the fifth in their 6-5 win.
Cole Stevens hit a double, Aaron Sjanic hit two singles, and Crowe hit one single in the win.
The Eagles scored one run in the third inning and four in the fifth inning.
Josh Calder hit two singles and Nate Stone hit one single for the Eagles.
With the win, the Vikings automatically advance to regionals and the Eagles will play in a qualifier.
