The September meeting of Holy Family CWL was held on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Francine Robichaud welcomed everyone back. Deacon Howard Gotell lead us in the ‘League Prayer’ followed by the singing of O Canada.
Spiritual: Diane Yarymovich reminded us that October is the month of the Rosary, with Oct. 7 being the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and Oct. 13 being the day of the final visit of Mary to Fatima. This is the time to commit to praying the rosary everyday.
The minutes of our June meeting were read and approved.
Maria Kirkpatrick presented the Treasurer’s Report.
Pat Weatherbee read the read the correspondence in Debbie’s absence: We received thank you cards from Ivy Legere, from the family of John Boom, and a thank you from ‘Save the Family Plan’ for our donation. Pat then acknowledged the death of Life Time CWL member Rita Mae Munroe. We received a letter from Glenna O’Quinn regarding Medically Assisted Death and Moral Distress in Catholic Health Professionals.
Fall Turkey Supper: Marg MacDonald stated that our annual turkey dinner is Sunday, Oct. 1 with take-outs available as well as free delivery to seniors.
Organization: Pauline Pettigrew notified the national office of the death of two of our members and has received confirmation of their receipt.
Spiritual: Diane Yarymovich reported members formed an honour guard for deceased members Terri McGee and Sheila Marshall. The Book of Life was signed during each mass and it was mentioned by several members of each family that it was a beautiful addition to the service.
Christian Family Life: Mary Lynne Chapman reported that we hosted seven funeral receptions since our last meeting. We have become aware of a number of people attending our funeral receptions who have food allergies. We now make accommodations for those with allergies. Mary Lynn thanked all those who prepared food or helped at the recent funeral receptions.
Community Life: Pat Frenette sent a get well card to Pauline Griffiths in June. She visited Rita Davison and gave her a Get Well Card. A sympathy card was sent to the McGee family in July. Pat started a new project of making newborn baby hats for the hospital. To date she has knitted four dozen.
Communication: Pat Weatherbee reported that a write-up of our June meeting was posted on our Facebook page and was printed in the Amherst News on June 23. Advertising for our Fall Fair Turkey Dinner has taken place. The issue of Pornography should continue to be a concern for members and their families. At a later meeting, we will be providing letters against pornography that members can sign and send to members of parliament.
Education and Health: Pauline Kellegrew will deliver a cheque to the Amherst Preschool to cover our commitment to provide nutritious snacks for the 48 children who attend who attend their program for the month October.
Youth Report: Glenna O’Quinn thanked the CWL for their prayer support, volunteers and financial support. The Vacation Bible Camp this past summer was very successful with a total of 150 youth and volunteers.
Tea and Sale Raffle: Francine reported that members have turned in ticket money plus sales from selling at a local venue. Members will be contacted to sell at future venues.
Business Arising from the Minutes:
- A special thank you was offered to all those who brought in lunch for the Bible Camp in July.
- Congratulations to Alana Legere on the birth of her baby boy on August 22.
- Our duties for the ‘Kitchen Klean’ are March and October. A list of guidelines is posted on what our duties will be for those 2 months.
Sister Theresa’s Farewell Reception: Will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24.
Ministries Lists: Vi Corbett reported on the ministries lists. She invited anyone able and willing to partake in the rosary at Gables on Thursdays. Please contact Vi if interested.
CWL Day Workshop: Will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21 here at Holy Family and presented by Provincial President, Peggy MacNeil and her team. We will provide the lunch.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7p.m.
Deacon Gotell’s Remarks:
The Deacon reminded us to remember in prayer those who have property in Florida.
Starting in October the weekday mass on Wednesdays will be at 6:30 and the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place before Mass. Father Craig will give more information in the next few weeks. Howard asked our members to consider being present for the Exposition. Also since October is the ‘Month of Mary’ Howard asked us to consider saying the Rosary before our meeting.
Deacon Howard read from the gospel of Luke and the story of Jesus, Mary and Martha.
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Eva O’Byrne.
Howard led us in a closing prayer.
A Bring & Buy Sale was conducted after the meeting with Shirley LeBlanc as Auctioneer and Shauna Graham as assistant.
