Des­mond Ralph Ayl­ward

It is with heavy hearts that the fam­ily of the late Des­mond Ralph Ayl­ward, age 78, of Amherst and for­merly of Springhill an­nounce his pass­ing on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 9, 2017 at Cum­ber­land Re­gional Health Care Cen­tre, Up­per Nap­pan, NS.

Born in Parrs­boro, he was a son of the late Ralph and Eva (Des­mond) Ayl­ward.

Des­mond worked in construction for over 40 years in Cum­ber­land County and away. He was an avid sports fan and was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan for over 70 years. Des­mond en­joyed watch­ing western movies and play­ing cards.

He leaves to mourn his wife the for­mer Su­san Brown, two daugh­ters Holly (Kenny Rec­tor) and Stephanie Rec­tor both of Amherst, three sons Ralph and John of Amherst and Mark of Al­berta, two sis­ters Brenda Penny (Paul) and Betty “Dorothy” (Don­nie) Ryan both of Hal­i­fax, sev­eral grand­chil­dren and great grand­chil­dren and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews. Be­sides his par­ents, Des­mond was pre­de­ceased by his daugh­ter Heather Hunter and sis­ter Mar­i­lyn Arm­strong.

A cel­e­bra­tion of his life will be held on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 13, 2017 from 12 to 5 p.m. at 6 Dale Street, Amherst, NS.

Fam­ily burial will take place in the Hill­side Ceme­tery, Springhill.

The fam­ily would like to thank the nurses VON, Cum­ber­land Re­gional Health Care Cen­tre Pal­lia­tive Care and nurses as well as Dr. Short, Dr. Bel­tran and Dr. Bob.
