Christ­mas sea­son kick-o in Amherst this week­end

When the big tree is up at the cor­ner of Vic­to­ria and Have­lock Streets, we know Amherst is about to kick of the hol­i­day sea­son with a week­end packed with fes­tive fun.

On Fri­day evening, the an­nual Christ­mas Light-Up be­gins at 6 p.m. in Vic­to­ria Square with live en­ter­tain­ment, free hot choco­late, and a spe­cial mes­sage from Santa.

e whole com­mu­nity is in­vited to help count down the light-up and join in the sing-along at First Bap­tist Church with the ARHS band.

Satur­day brings the an­nual Christ­mas pa­rade start­ing at the in­ter­sec­tion of Eddy and Vic­to­ria, and end­ing at Amherst Cen­tre Mall with an award cer­e­mony, live mu­sic, re­fresh­ments, and vis­its with Santa.

On Sun­day morn­ing, the tree for Bos­ton makes its nal stop in Nova Sco­tia at about 10:30 a.m. in the At­lantic Su­per­store park­ing lot.

e whole com­mu­nity is in­vited to gather for the send-off and en­joy live mu­sic, re­fresh­ments, and photos with the enor­mous Christ­mas tree that lls an en­tire trans­port truck trailer.

10 a.m. to noon at Mag­gie’s Place, 11 Elm­wood Dr., Amherst. Par­ents/care­givers and chil­dren join with Mag­gie’s Place sta for some monster fun. Call 902-667-7250 to reg­is­ter.

2 to 5 p.m. at the Sun­rise Se­nior’s Hall, Lower Shin­im­i­cas with old-time mu­sic by Ger­ald MacKen­zie and Friends. Shared lunch.

9 to 11:30 a.m. at Amherst Trin­ity-St. Stephen’s United Church, 1 Ratch­ford St. with the craft ta­bles, Shin­ing Star Bak­ery, Deb­o­rah’s Deals and gen­tly used Christ­mas dec­o­ra­tions. Drop by Martha’s Inn Café for turkey soup, bis­cuits, cook­ies, tea and co ee.
