Swimmers take the plunge at Nova Tech meet
AMHERST – Eight young swimmers collected handfuls of awards at the recent regional Nova Tech meet in Truro.
“The Nova Tech program offers a supportive introduction to competitive swimming,” said Spartans coach Manson Gloade. “Swimmers work through a tiered program to lay the foundations of technique and endurance, and have a lot of fun as a team as well.”
Three new Spartans swimmers successfully took the plunge.
“It was wonderful to see how they brought their best to the pool,” said Gloade.
Chelsea Elliott, Gemma Leslie-Dowe and Ava Taggart competed at the introductory level and collected best time awards for each of their swims.
In the Level 1 category, Reagan Bushen recorded best times in each of her events.
She placed first in the 50metre free, 50-metre back and 200-metre Individual Medley, and ranked fifth overall in the 50-metre kick.
Four swimmers competed as Level 2 swimmers.
Abbie Byrnes placed second in the 50-metre back and 200metre IM, fourth in the 50-metre free and 50-metre kick, and fifth in the 200-metre free.
She recorded four personal bests and met the qualifying standards to move on to Age Group swimming.
Simon Buske swam to second place in the 50-metre free, third in the 200-metre IM and fourth in the 50-metre back and 200metre free. He collected personal best awards in four of his events.
Aurelia Mitchell ranked seventh in the 200-metre free and 200-metre IM events and recorded three best times at the meet.
New to Level 2 swimming, Olivia Elliott swam a personal best in the 200-metre free event.
