Organizers are busy preparing for the 36th Highland Fling Family Fun Fair in May.

The Cumberland Health Care Auxiliary Highland Fling organizing committee is in the midst of planning the 36th Annual Highland Fling Family Fun Fair to be held this year on Saturday, May 12 at the Amherst Curling Club.

This annual event is an important part of the Cumberland Health Care Auxiliary’s efforts to raise funds each and every year towards the purchase of hospital equipment. The dedicate volunteers of the auxiliary have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars towards the purchase of much needed items and this year is no exception.

This year the theme is Spring and the goal is to raise $35,000 to purchase two respirators for the ICU.

The Highland Fling and the events leading up to it are a major part of this fundraising drive and one members of the community can embrace and enjoy.

“There is something for everyone whether you attend the Fling, purchase raffle tickets, purchase a button or participate in one of the three events leading up to the Fling,” auxiliary president Betty Duizer-Logan said.

Raffle tickets on a fabulous painting by John Greer are available now for purchase. If you are interested in a ticket, contact Ida Roode at 902-660-2463.

Tickets will also be available at all three pre-Fling events.

On Saturday, April 21 Canadian Tire will be hosting the Canadian Tire Fling day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to the advertised deals that day, you can grab some lunch at the hot dog barbecue or purchase a chance to spin the wheel to win ballots into the grand prize draw for a treadmill.

One spin for $3or two for $5 and whatever number you spin on the wheel equals the number of ballots you can enter into the draw.

If you are lucky enough to land on the Number 1 you can win a door prize.

On Saturday, May 5 Breakfast at Brittney’s is donating $2 on all meals valued at $8 or more to the Fling.

Finally, the Bordertown Jam is hosting a country jamboree band Maple Sugar on Wednesday, May 10 for the annual event Singing for the Fling.

Tickets are $10 each and all the proceeds from this event are donated to the Fling.
