Wabush gearing up for 50th anniversary celebrations next year
Plans are underway for a week of celebrations as the Town of Wabush hosts its 50th Anniversary and Come Home Year next year.
The celebrations are set for July 22 to 29, 2017.
The town’s director of planning and land use, Melanie LaFosse, said the week will be filled with events for people of all ages. Activities include everything from a church service to a dinner theatre; from swimming to yoga; from sporting tournaments to Bingo games.
There will also be a special breakfast for seniors, LaFosse said, as well as other activities throughout the week.
Planning for the week-long event began in January, she said, and numerous fundraisers have already taken place.
“Just this past weekend (July 16) we had our duck race and we raised $3,500 for the Wabush 50th anniversary committee,” LaFosse said.
Funds were also raised during Canada Day celebrations, she said, and from jail-and-bail in June.
“Next year we are looking at doing the jail-and-bail and the duck race again while people are actually here (during the celebrations),” she said.
