Seeking connections to the Ricketts Family
I am writing today to thank all of the Ricketts families of Newfoundland who have responded to my letter for The Ricketts Project so far.
I have enjoyed getting your letters, getting to know you on the phone and look forward to meeting many of you during my trip back to Newfoundland between July 18 to 24.
For anyone who didn’t receive a letter or hasn’t yet responded I am asking for your assistance. I am working on a very exciting project to determine all the Ricketts families now living in Newfoundland; and trace back their family trees to determine how many different Ricketts originally migrated to Newfoundland.
I am a direct descendant of Newfoundland as my Ricketts’s ancestors are from Knight’s Cove. I decided to take on this project right after my father, William Ricketts, passed in November 2014. Since then I have travelled to Newfoundland quite a few times and have tried to learn more about my Ricketts family as well as the other Ricketts families of Newfoundland.
So far I know my great-grandfather on my father’s side was Thomas Ricketts (born approximately 1840). He lived in Knight’s Cove and was married to Jane Ryan. They had four sons: David, Michael, James Edward, and John Thomas Ricketts and two daughters: Margaret and Mary Frances. My grandfather on my father’s side was Michael Ricketts born June 17, 1882 in Knight’s Cove and he immigrated to Boston and then New York around 1902. Michael was married to Bridget Frances Curran born Feb. 15, 1887 in Conception Harbour, Newfoundland. They had seven sons, the youngest one being my father William Ricketts (born April 9, 1927) and two daughters.
You can help me with my research by sharing any knowledge about your Ricketts’s ancestors. No information is too small. I am asking for parent’s names, grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents as far back as you can remember. I would need full names, birthdate, place of birth, date of death, place of death.
I have been using the Newfound- land resources but some records are missing and without your help I am not able to connect families.
Please send me a note either to my email address jricker118@aol. com or I can be reached at 914325-4998.
This research project is a tremendous opportunity for all of us to make discoveries about our ancestors, and to learn how many Ricketts men migrated to Newfoundland.
If you are interested, I will keep you informed of all of my exciting discoveries. I look forward to hearing back from you and working with you to help trace the Ricketts descendants of Newfoundland. If you have any questions please feel free to call or email me, I would be happy to speak with you.
Thank you in advance for any information you can provide for this Ricketts project.
