Call a referendum on Muskrat Falls

The Aurora (Labrador City) - - EDITORIAL -

I am amazed at the comments being made by our minister of Finance.

The premier does not seem to realize the damage she has done to him and the Liberal party. And she does not seem to be a Liberal by any stretch of the imagination.

She was a supporter of the mindless project known as Muskrat Falls and recently she has stated that this piece of madness cannot be stopped, so it must be finished. Both she and the new CEO of Nalcor have made the same statement. This has been decided without looking at the possibility of closing down the project. Do they not realize that by continuing this project they could bankrupt our province and crucify our people with electrical bills they cannot cope with?

I urge the people of our province not to take the word of people because of their lofty position. You must demand that you be given a say in whether Muskrat Falls is completed or shut down. You must demand every ounce of information on this project that is Williams’ folly. It will be too late to demand this when the decision has been made by individuals who do not give a damn about the people, but only their own considerations.

Please, please do not let this continue without knowing all the facts and demanding the government hold a referendum. Do not depend on any of the existing political parties because in their utter stupidity they all supported it.

Let it be known that the demonstrations that have been held to date will be just a church picnic when compared to what will happen. What will the government do if the people refuse to pay their light bills when Williams’ folly comes on stream?
