Young Labrador boy receiving Youth Ventures Award
L’anse au Loup 11 year old has business success with Labrador themed roasting sticks
L’ANSE AU LOUP, NL - With some Labrador themed roasting sticks, an 11-year-old L’anse au Loup boy will soon be taking home the Youth Ventures award for excellence in arts and tourism.
Logan Belben was out with his mother Donna when he noticed some Youth Ventures flyers, advertising. As soon he saw them, his mother says he began striking up ideas of how he could get involved.
The Youth Ventures program was created to encourage young people in the province in their hobbies, interests and passions. A variety of awards exemplifying Newfoundland and Labradorian youth are also given out by the organization each year.
Logan will be one of the program’s youngest award recipients.
After sitting down with a Youth Ventures coordinator, Logan came up with the idea of painting roasting sticks and fishing poles with the Labrador flag.
Soon his father and pop got involved. They took up some 2x4s and began sawing roasting sticks out of them.
Word travelled fast and Logan’s roasting sticks became a big seller at his parents’ business Fast Freddy’s Take-Out.
“He’s very excited and overwhelmed by the support,” said Donna. “It’s given him a phenomenal summer.”
Logan has been kept so busy painting sticks that he’s had to get extra help to keep up with the demand. Donna expects he’ll continue this for the rest of the summer.
The enterprise has been such a success that the Youth Ventures will now be rewarding the 11-year-old.
On Thursday, Aug. 10, Logan travelled to St. John’s to receive his Youth Ventures award for excellence in arts and tourism.
He’s looking forward to getting the award and continuing his successful business.
Eleven-year-old L’anse au Loup resident Logan Belben’s Labrador-themed roasting sticks have become a major success. For his enterprise, he is being rewarded the Youth Ventures award in excellence in arts and tourism.
