Full slate of candidates for Wabush municipal election
Unlike many municipalities in this province, there was no trouble getting a full slate of candidates for the upcoming municipal election for the Town of Wabush.
The election will be held Sept. 26. Nominations were held at the Wabush town hall on Aug. 29. There are two candidates for the position of mayor - Ronald Barron, who has previously served as mayor and on council, and Terrance Curran, who has been a longtime member of council.
Running for councillors are Francis Delahunty, currently on council, Richard Burke, who is also presently on council, and Mayor Colin Vardy.
Others seeking a council seat are Gertrude Canning, Samuel Andrews, Boyle AuCoin, and Marlene Barron.
The election will take place at the Wabush recreation center (Mike Adam complex.) An advance poll is planned for Sept. 19 at the Wabush town hall.
Meanwhile, the nomination for candidates for the Town of Labrador City takes place Sept. 5 between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the council chambers on Hudson drive.
Labrador City will have one election for seven councillors. The position of mayor will be offered to the person with the most votes. That person does not necessarily have to accept, in which case the position will be offered to the person with the next highest number of votes.
