Canada Summer Jobs Program requirement is unjust
I wish to express my disagreement with this new and unjust requirement of the Canada Summer Jobs Program, re: the statement that refers to “reproductive rights” on the Canada Summer Job Program application.
I listened to MP Seamus O’regan’s recent radio comments about July 1st being N.L.’S Memorial Day as well as Canada Day. It occurred to me the irony of his words, as our “beloved dead soldiers” fought for our freedom: freedom of religion, freedom of free speech, freedom of beliefs.
The federal Liberal government has crossed a line and disrespected our “beloved dead soldiers” by imposing their discriminatory attempt to override our Charter of Rights enshrined in the Canadian Constitution.
I have worked as a people manager for some 30 years, and this statement is wrong on so many HR levels that it puzzles me as to who is in charge in Ottawa to allow such a claim to exist, let alone insist that it be answered “their” way or the application is declined.
It is our Members of Parliament’s job to protect our rights, to work towards inclusiveness, and respect the differences of others.
One of a Christian’s core beliefs is that human life, created by God, is sacred. For this reason most Christian faiths oppose the practice of abortion.
Now, many churches, parishes and organizations will not have the benefit of having a student for the summer.
Students need jobs, and we need students. Makes one wonder if it was the Liberal’s intent to move the money elsewhere all along.
The Liberal government speaks up for veteran rights, Pride rights, aboriginal rights, euthanasia, assisted suicide, abortion, etc. the list goes on.
The government is free to live out their beliefs, but to impose discrimination against Christians and their beliefs, that’s irony at its best.
The Liberal government cowered to the popular vote rather than standing for a “Strong and free” Canada.
I am disappointed in my Member of Parliament, and the Liberal government.
N.L. is a very Christian-based province, as most voters and Members of Parliament for N.L. would be well aware, as most have gone through the denominational education system that once existed here in N.L.
No government, nor Member of Parliament, should impose any discriminatory attempt to make Canada less than “Strong and free.”
The Liberal government needs to remove the statement that refers to reproductive rights on the Canada Summer Job Program application.
To our beloved dead soldiers: We will remember!
