Mapleview Drive closure extended
(STAFF) — Due to extenuating circumstances, the Mapleview Drive East full road closure will be extended one additional day, until today at 7 p.m.
The contractor ran into some installation issues with respect to the sewer pipe and existing utilities at Mapleview Drive. The rainfall also exacerbated the backfilling operation and essentially delayed completion of the crossing as scheduled.
All the pipe and manholes have now been installed, and the contractor is backfilling the 45-foot wide, eight-foot deep trench.
Mapleview has been closed since Oct. 2 between Yonge Street and Royal Jubilee to install a trunk sanitary sewer that will serve the future needs of the Hewitt’s Secondary Planning Area.
The full closure is necessary in order to limit the duration of construction and ensure public safety in the work zone.
The detour route is via Prince William Way, Big Bay Point Road and Yonge Street with an alternate detour route via the 20th side Road, Lockhart Road and Yonge Street. Access to all local businesses will be maintained during the closure. Signs for the closure are currently in place.
Barrie Transit’s Route 4 will not be able to service the Barre South GO Station, but GO train riders can take Route 4 to the Allandale Go Station.
Route 4B will end at Royal Jubilee Drive and change to Route 4A and then detour onto Royal Jubilee Drive, Sun King Crescent, Majesty Boulevard and back on route travelling northbound onto Prince William Way.
The following bus stops on Route 4 will be out of service: #725 (Barrie South GO Station), #515 (Royal Jubilee Drive), and #596 (Griffin Gate), #552 (Yonge Street).
