Speed­ing charges laid

Op­er­a­tion Im­pact of­fi­cers with Bar­rie po­lice laid 23 speed­ing charges dur­ing the Oct. 6-9 en­force­ment blitz. Other charges laid in­cluded stunt driv­ing, two seat belt in­frac­tions, two for im­paired driv­ing, a road­side so­bri­ety fail­ure re­sult­ing in a 72-hour sus­pen­sion, dis­tracted driv­ing with a cell phone and 33 High­way Traf­fic Act vi­o­la­tions. Op­er­a­tion Im­pact fo­cuses on high-risk driv­ing be­hav­iour, the so-called ‘Big 4’ of inat­ten­tive, ag­gres­sive and im­paired driv­ing - as well as not wear­ing seat belts. This ini­tia­tive is de­signed to re­mind driv­ers that an es­sen­tial part of the en­force­ment job is to save lives and re­duce in­juries on road­ways.
