Spirit Catcher awards ceremony tonight
The Order of the Spirit Catcher Awards will be handed out this evening at Barrie’s Southshore Centre.
Erica Curtis is this year’s recipient of the Order of the Spirit catcher. She is a retired nurse who has devoted her free time to volunteering for Parkinson
Canada, as well as for Hospice Simcoe, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Epilepsy Canada and earlier in her life was on the YMCA and a Canadian mentalhealth board of directors.
Zachary Hofer is the winner of the Youth Spirit Catcher Award. The 13-year-old boy dedicated his year to helping children with mentalhealth concerns by jogging, biking and scootering 465 kilometres across Ontario.
Hofer has raised $82,686 for
RVH’s new mental-health ward for youth.
The Order of the Spirit Catcher awards were established in 2000, the highest awards given to volunteers for outstanding service to the community.
Barrie city council will recognize Curtis and Hoffer at its Nov. 20 meeting.
