25 teams, 68 games
Central host U15 Female Mega Tournament
It was a big weekend for female hockey in central Newfoundland.
The U15 Female Mega tournament took place in Gander and Glovertown from March 23-26.
The two minor hockey associations hosted 25 teams from across the province for a total of 68 games.
Debbie Bouzanne, co-chair for the event, said organizing the event is a major undertaking, but it’s well worth it.
“This is the largest turnout the event has seen,” said Bouzanne. “But it was a great weekend, we had a lot of support and volunteers, and some great feedback saying the teams had a lot of fun.”
The tournament also served as a fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, in which the funds are used to support breast cancer research, education, health promotion and patient support programs.
The U15 tournament raised over $6,800 for Pink in the Rink.
