A pad­dle for ap­pre­ci­a­tion

BONAVISTA BAY, NL – Eva Par­sons of the Cen­tral Dragon Boat Group pre­sented a “Pad­dle of Ap­pre­ci­a­tion” to mem­bers of the Bonavista Bay Search and Res­cue Team re­cently.

Team mem­bers, in con­junc­tion with the RCMP and other vol­un­teer boaters, pro­vided safety boats for the “Slay the Gan­der” dragon boat races held on Gan­der Lake be­tween June 29 and July 1.

The pad­dle is cov­ered with the sig­na­tures of 86 women – all breast can­cer sur­vivors – who par­tic­i­pated in this event.

Races were held be­tween the Ar­row Air dis­as­ter site and App­ple­ton, both si­t­u­ated on Gan­der Lake.

Most par­tic­i­pants were from New­found­land and Labrador, but oth­ers came from BC, NS, NB and ONT. Vol­un­teers who sup­ported this event were re­warded by the pos­i­tive at­ti­tudes of par­tic­i­pants and great food pro­vided at their camp­site in Lit­tle Har­bour.
