Docs vs. Jocks introduces new physicians to Gander
James Patton Memorial Hospital physicians and high school students squared off on the soccer field on Oct. 5 for a Docs vs. Jocks fun game. The idea behind the game was to introduce new physicians to Gander and have a bit of fun in the process.
Dr. Gill Starkes, one of the organizers said over the last month seven new physicians have been added to the hospital’s medical staff. She thought the soccer game would be a great way to welcome the new staff to Gander.
“This is a fun, international group of people – there were many among the new group of doctors that really love soccer and have come with young children, so we are really trying to plug them into the community,” said Starkes.
She also added it was a way to promote recreational activities and soccer in the area – as it’s a low-cost, low-injury sport that promotes active living.
The gathering was used to raise cash and food donations for the area food bank.
