Creating the Traytown Rink
Atom hockey player Braden Blackwood gets in some extra practise time with his father on Jan. 20. The rink is still a little rough. One more flood and it should be in excellent shape – providing the weather cooperates. John Denty pushes slush off the rink following some snow and mild weather at the beginning of January. If the rink is left in a slushy state like this, it will likely be unusable for the rest of the winter. The temperature with wind chill reads -18C as Curtis Abbott douses the cleared rink. Four volunteers helped flood the rink with water on Jan. 7. “You can do it with one person, but it’s very difficult,” says John Denty.
