Eight-game tour­na­ment draws teams from across New­found­land

Atom hockey teams from Glovertown, Clarenville, Marys­town and Cor­ner Brook joined in Glovertown this week­end for an eight-game tour­na­ment.

On Sun­day morn­ing the Glovertown Tor­na­does de­feated the Marys­town Mariners 4-2 in the cham­pi­onship game to take the gold medal. The Tor­na­does went into the game with four wins and no loses, while Marys­town went in with three wins and one loss.

Both teams were feel­ing con­fi­dent be­fore the game with Glovertown shut­ting out Cor­ner Brook and Marys­town shut­ting out Clarenville in Satur­day’s last two games.

Marys­town’s Ni­cholas Fran­cis scored the first goal of the game and an­other in the first pe­riod. De­spite some good stick han­dling, the Mariners could not score again. The Tor­na­does were able to cre­ate sev­eral Tor­nado Braden Black­wood and Mariner David Miller in the vis­i­tors’ end dur­ing the first pe­riod of the cham­pi­onship game.
