Trial date set for man ac­cused in deaths of woman and her daugh­ter

CAL­GARY — A three-week jury trial for a man ac­cused of killing a Cal­gary woman and her five-year-old daugh­ter is sched­uled to be­gin in Novem­ber 2018. Ed­ward Downey is plead­ing not guilty to two counts of first-de­gree mur­der in the deaths of Sara Bail­lie and her daugh­ter Taliyah Mars­man last sum­mer. The Crown is also ex­pect­ing a two-week hear­ing be­fore the Nov. Post­media Wire Ser­vices

Bail­lie, who was 34, was found dead in her north­west Cal­gary home on July 11, but Taliyah was miss­ing and an Am­ber Alert was is­sued. The girl’s body was found days later in a ru­ral area east of the city. Downey, who is 47, has been in cus­tody since his ar­rest.
