HHHH Fincas Patagonicas 2014 Tapiz Alta Collection Malbec Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina ON $19.95 (450155) HHHH Bodega Piedra Negra 2013 Gran Lurton Cabernet Sauvignon Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina ON $24.95 (980334)

This single vineyard Malbec is a pretty and perfumed expression that comes from a team headed by chief winemaker Fabian Valenzuela and Pomerol-based consultant Jean Claude Berrouet (formerly winemaker at Château Petrus). The mix of floral and spice notes add interest to the fresh red aromas on the nose, while the palate is wonderfully harmonious and supple from start to finish. Here’s a solid indication why Cabernet Sauvignon doesn’t take a backseat to Malbec in Argentina. This is a rich and robust red with appealing concentration and intensity of flavour and impressive structure. This is a sophisticated wine that’s truly satisfying.
