- Fred­er­ick Gor­don “Fred” Howe, 81, of RR 1 Em­bro passed away sud­denly, but peace­fully, with fam­ily by his side, at his res­i­dence on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 9, 2017. He was born in West Zorra Town­ship, Ox­ford County on June 17, 1936, a son of the late Gor­don and An­nie (Pye) Howe. Fred had farmed in Zorra Town­ship and was a ru­ral mail car­rier for 30 years on Em­bro routes RR 5 and RR 2; he was a mem­ber of Knox Pres­by­te­rian Church in Em­bro; was a Past Pres­i­dent of Ox­ford County Dairy Herd Im­prove­ment As­so­ci­a­tion; Past Pres­i­dent of Em­bro Op­ti­mist Club; Past Pres­i­dent of Zorra Cale­do­nians; served on the Em­bro Fair Board; was a mem­ber of South Easthope Tug-O-War Team; had served as a mem­ber of West Zorra Town­ship Coun­cil; was a mem­ber of Downie Hunt Club; had worked at Cobi Foods in Inger­soll and Ox­ford Co-op; he had sev­eral race horses rac­ing through­out On­tario. Fred is sur­vived by his wife, the for­mer Norma Ge­orgina Coulthard whom he mar­ried at Strat­ford on Oc­to­ber 18, 1958; three chil­dren, Gor­don Howe of RR 1 Em­bro; Brenda Howe of Wood­stock, San­dra Mor­ris of Strat­ford, his son-in-law, Rob Mor­ris of Strat­ford; four grand­chil­dren, Amy and hus­band Scott Lichti, Amanda and hus­band John McA­dam, Sarah and hus­band Jon Hood and Matt Mor­ris; six great­grand­chil­dren, Mia, Tyson, Anika, Johnathon, Au­rora and Makayla; his brother and sis­terin-law, Robert and Linda Howe; broth­ers-in-law and sis­ters-in­law, Gor­don and Mar­ian Coulthard, Larry and Elsie Coulthard and Alex Coulthard; sev­eral nieces, neph­ews and their fam­i­lies. He was pre­de­ceased by his daugh­ter, Ge­orgina Howe in in­fancy in 1961; his son-in-law, Ken­neth Ea­ton; his brother, Bev Howe; his sis­ter and brother-in­law, Ruby and Orland “Shorty” Wet­t­laufer; his fa­ther-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Jeanne (Innes) Coulthard; his brother-in-law, Win­ston Coulthard. Rel­a­tives and friends will be re­ceived in the Fran­cis Funeral Home, 77 Wood­stock St. N., Tav­i­s­tock on Mon­day from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral ser­vice will be held on Tues­day, Novem­ber 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Tom God­frey will of­fi­ci­ate. Re­cep­tion fol­low­ing. Inurn­ment will be in North Em­bro Ceme­tery Colum­bar­ium.
