- Frederick Gordon “Fred” Howe, 81, of RR 1 Embro passed away suddenly, but peacefully, with family by his side, at his residence on Thursday, November 9, 2017. He was born in West Zorra Township, Oxford County on June 17, 1936, a son of the late Gordon and Annie (Pye) Howe. Fred had farmed in Zorra Township and was a rural mail carrier for 30 years on Embro routes RR 5 and RR 2; he was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Embro; was a Past President of Oxford County Dairy Herd Improvement Association; Past President of Embro Optimist Club; Past President of Zorra Caledonians; served on the Embro Fair Board; was a member of South Easthope Tug-O-War Team; had served as a member of West Zorra Township Council; was a member of Downie Hunt Club; had worked at Cobi Foods in Ingersoll and Oxford Co-op; he had several race horses racing throughout Ontario. Fred is survived by his wife, the former Norma Georgina Coulthard whom he married at Stratford on October 18, 1958; three children, Gordon Howe of RR 1 Embro; Brenda Howe of Woodstock, Sandra Morris of Stratford, his son-in-law, Rob Morris of Stratford; four grandchildren, Amy and husband Scott Lichti, Amanda and husband John McAdam, Sarah and husband Jon Hood and Matt Morris; six greatgrandchildren, Mia, Tyson, Anika, Johnathon, Aurora and Makayla; his brother and sisterin-law, Robert and Linda Howe; brothers-in-law and sisters-inlaw, Gordon and Marian Coulthard, Larry and Elsie Coulthard and Alex Coulthard; several nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his daughter, Georgina Howe in infancy in 1961; his son-in-law, Kenneth Eaton; his brother, Bev Howe; his sister and brother-inlaw, Ruby and Orland “Shorty” Wettlaufer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Jeanne (Innes) Coulthard; his brother-in-law, Winston Coulthard. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock St. N., Tavistock on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Tom Godfrey will officiate. Reception following. Inurnment will be in North Embro Cemetery Columbarium.
