On Satur­day, Shi­han Mark Yates from Yates Karate in Tav­i­s­tock and Pro­mar Karate in Lis­towel, and Sen­sei Becky Sch­weitzer from Sch­weitzer’s Martial Arts in Mil­ver­ton trav­elled to Fredrick­town, Ohio to com­pete at the U.P.M.A.C. (United Pro­mot­ers Martial Arts Cir­cuit) state fi­nals. Yates was first in 18+ Black Belt Mu­si­cal Kata/Weapons, 18+ Black Belt Self-De­fence, Ex­ec­u­tive Black Belt Weapons, and sec­ond in Ex­ec­u­tive Black Belt Kata. He also won grand cham­pi­onships for Self-De­fence and Kata/Weapons. Sch­weitzer was first in 18+ Women’s Black Belt Weapons and 18+ Women’s Black Belt Kata. She also took sec­onds in 18+ Black Belt Mu­si­cal Kata/Weapons and 18+ Black Belt Self-De­fence. Next up is the U.P.M.A.C. din­ner ban­quet Jan. 6, 2018 where Yates and Sch­weitzer will be re­ceiv­ing their awards for the points they gath­ered over the 2017 U.P.M.A.C. tour­na­ment sea­son.
