SUCCESS IN THE STATES
On Saturday, Shihan Mark Yates from Yates Karate in Tavistock and Promar Karate in Listowel, and Sensei Becky Schweitzer from Schweitzer’s Martial Arts in Milverton travelled to Fredricktown, Ohio to compete at the U.P.M.A.C. (United Promoters Martial Arts Circuit) state finals. Yates was first in 18+ Black Belt Musical Kata/Weapons, 18+ Black Belt Self-Defence, Executive Black Belt Weapons, and second in Executive Black Belt Kata. He also won grand championships for Self-Defence and Kata/Weapons. Schweitzer was first in 18+ Women’s Black Belt Weapons and 18+ Women’s Black Belt Kata. She also took seconds in 18+ Black Belt Musical Kata/Weapons and 18+ Black Belt Self-Defence. Next up is the U.P.M.A.C. dinner banquet Jan. 6, 2018 where Yates and Schweitzer will be receiving their awards for the points they gathered over the 2017 U.P.M.A.C. tournament season.
