Perth County OPP responded to a domestic situation at a residence near Rostock at 4:50 p.m. April 14. Claiming reasons of public safety, police closed a stretch of Perth Line 49 between Perth Road 135 and Perth Road 140. The road remained closed until early Sunday morning.

According to unverified reports by area residents on Facebook, the OPP took over the Rostock Agri-Centre and Hall to use as a command post around 7:15 p.m.

At some point during the police response, plastic projectiles were fired at the 61-year old man from an anti-riot weapon. Shortly after that, the man sustained a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at 10:15 p.m.

At this time, investigators believe that only the anti-riot weapon was fired. No other police weapon is believed to have been discharged.
