Dog can’t drive

The Beacon Herald - - OPINION -

What is up with people letting small dogs sit on their lap while they drive? I’ve seen this three times in a week recently. The driver has to be somewhat distracted having this dog on his lap while he’s trying to drive.

But really the bigger issue is, what if they are involved in an accident that causes the airbag to go off? The driver may come out of it OK, but I’m pretty sure he’s going to end up with a dead dog from the force of the airbag.

These dogs need to be crated or at least restrained with a harness in the back seat, so they aren’t in danger from the airbag. Even if the airbag doesn’t go off, braking or the car getting hit can cause the dog to be flung about in the car, resulting in injury or death.
