Canadian, Americans bond over a poppy

The Beacon Herald - - OPINION -

I am involved in the restoration of our Lancaster Bomber. A few years ago I was in Toronto for a conference and I was sitting at the bar with an American couple from Pittsburgh.

Being near Nov. 11, I was wearing my poppy. The couple noticed my poppy and asked why I was wearing it. I explained that it was how we celebrated our veterans. They said they wished they had something like that for their own.

The next night they were both wearing our poppies. It just proves they can learn about us and enjoy their visit here.
