Strat­ford Po­lice launch RIDE pro­gram in St. Marys and Perth South

Roughly 100 ve­hi­cles were stopped by Strat­ford Po­lice in St. Marys and Perth South Tues­day night dur­ing the po­lice ser­vice’s first RIDE pro­gram in the two mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties. Hav­ing only taken over polic­ing ser­vices from the OPP in St. Marys and Perth South on Mon­day, the Strat­ford Po­lice Ser­vice hit the ground run­ning by crack­ing down on im­paired driv­ing in the area.

The of­fi­cers in­volved in the Re­duce Im­paired Driv­ing Ev­ery­where pro­gram did not find any of the driv­ers they stopped to be im­paired.

As the hol­i­day sea­son ap­proaches, the Strat­ford po­lice are re­mind­ing the pub­lic that of­fi­cers will be con­duct­ing more RIDE pro­grams through­out Strat­ford, St. Marys, and Perth South dur­ing what is tra­di­tion­ally the most dan­ger­ous sea­son for mo­torists.

Po­lice are en­cour­ag­ing res­i­dents to choose not to drive when out cel­e­brat­ing the hol­i­days and to call 911 im­me­di­ately if there is a con­cern that a driver may be im­paired.
