Campus has no room for hate

The Canadian Jewish News (Montreal) - - Letters To The Editor -

Mcgill University student Igor Sadikov continues his hateful rhetoric against Jews following up on his call to “Punch a Zionist” (“Student leader faces discipline for ‘punch a zionist’ tweet,” Feb. 16). It’s time to expel this person from the university.

While Mcgill may condemn his rhetoric, it’s just a slap on the wrist. When the university does nothing it gives him permission. This is not freedom of speech.

Drill down to the basics of Sadikov’s incitement to commit violence. Who cares about the debate as to what “Zionism” means. That’s irrelevant.

And the fact that there was a meeting of the Student Society of Mcgill University is also irrelevant.

However, the fact that Zionists are Jews is totally relevant. It’s anti-semitic and abhorrent. Encouraging anyone to punch anyone else in the face is a criminal offence.

Where does the buck stop when it comes to safety, morality, code of basic conduct and values?

When is Mcgill principal Suzanne Fortier going to protect the community of students on campus who are clearly fearful for their well-being?
