Woman chokes fellow Israel-bound passengers, and Trump order nixes field trips
Maybe she didn’t like the kosher meal?
An Air Canada flight from Toronto to Israel made an unscheduled landing in London the morning of Feb. 15 after a woman on board began randomly choking other passengers. The crew of flight AC84 declared an aviation emergency over Glasgow, six hours into the flight, which had departed the previous night from Canada. Police were called to Heathrow Airport to escort the woman off the plane. After a one-hour delay, it took off again for Israel, Ynetnews reported.
Ban affects Shoah education
Visits to the Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus in a Detroit suburb are among the casualties of a Windsor, Ont., school board’s decision to suspend field trips across the border due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order barring citizens from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Yemen and Somalia from entering the United States. Greater Essex County District School Board superintendent Clara Howitt told the Windsor Star the board wanted to avoid unpleasant situations for students. “paramount for us is student safety… we really don’t know what will happen to our students at the border,” she said. When asked, U.S. authorities told the board that kids from the seven countries would be banned.
Holocaust denier charged in Germany
German-canadian Holocaust denier Alfred Schaefer has been charged with criminal incitement in Germany, after B’nai Brith Canada reported his activities to German officials, B’nai Brith said last week. Schaefer is the brother of disgraced former federal Green party candidate Monika Schaefer, who was denounced by the party after her Holocaust denial video came to light in 2016. Alfred Schaefer is also a regular creator of anti-semitic videos that glorify Hitler, describe Jewish people as “parasites,” and accuse them of conspiring to eliminate “the European race.” Schaefer recently addressed a neo-nazi rally in Dresden, Germany, and is also linked to suspended University of Lethbridge professor Anthony Hall, a promoter of anti-israel conspiracy theories.
