Com­mit­tal ser­vice for the late Michael Lam­ber­tus ‘Mike’ van Oirschot, 60, Antigo­nish, was held Septem­ber 1 in St. Ninian Ceme­tery with Fa­ther An­drew Boyd of­fi­ci­at­ing.

Mr. Van Oirschot died on Au­gust 27, 2018, af­ter a brief bat­tle with can­cer.

He was a son of Jo and Ann van Oirschot. He grad­u­ated from St. F.X. with a ge­ol­ogy de­gree and spent sev­eral decades work­ing in that field. Later, he moved onto forestry work, as he en­joyed be­ing out­doors and work­ing with his sons. He was an avid sport en­thu­si­ast and coach for many dif­fer­ent sports - hockey, ten­nis, ski­ing, and golf. Op­er­at­ing a spac­ing saw be­came a sport to him.

Be­sides his par­ents, he is sur­vived by his part­ner, Ash­ley Fleury, four sons, Cameron (Danielle), Brent (Mea­gan), Colin (Kat­lyn), Mar­cus; four sis­ters, Ann Marie, Made­line (Joe), Wil­helmina (Greg), Eve­lyn (Gar­net); two broth­ers, Joey (Dar­lene), Tom (Jane); many nieces and neph­ews.

He was pre­de­ceased by his youngest sis­ter, Brigitte, in in­fancy; brother-in-law, Jim Tozer.
