Fu­neral ser­vice for the late Richard Barker, 72, for­merly of Lake­vale, Antigo­nish County, was held Septem­ber 7 in St. Columba Church, Lake­vale. Burial was in the parish ceme­tery. Mr. Barker died in Antigo­nish. The foster son of the late

Hud­son and Linda Poole of Lake­vale, he worked in the Arc­tic and in Al­berta be­fore re­turn­ing home, where he was a lob­ster fish­er­man and con­struc­tion worker. He spent most of his life in the ser­vice of oth­ers and sev­eral el­derly peo­ple were able to re­main in their homes in their de­clin­ing years due to his help and sup­port. He was a very kind and gen­er­ous per­son.

He is sur­vived by three broth­ers, Joseph (Barbara) Poole, Hamil­ton; Pa­trick Dot­ten, B.C.; Stan­ley Wil­liam Barker (Eleanor), Bed­ford; sis­ter, Mary (Stu­art) Beaton, Antigo­nish; two nieces, Lau­rie, HRM; Su­san (Jo­erg), Hatch­ett Lake; three neph­ews, Keith, HRM; John Poole, On­tario; Gor­don (Cathy) Beaton, Antigo­nish.
