Fu­neral ser­vice for the late Thomas Joseph Mat­tie ‘Moochie Tom’, 61, Monastery, Antigo­nish County, was held Au­gust 30 in St. Peter’s Church, Tra­cadie, with Fa­ther John Barry of­fi­ci­at­ing, as­sisted by Fa­ther Wil­liam Crispo. Burial was in St. Peter’s Ceme­tery.

Mr. Mat­tie died Au­gust 25, 2018, in the Pal­lia­tive Care Unit, St. Martha’s Hos­pi­tal.

Read­ers at the fu­neral Mass were Ch­eryl Mac­neil and Lor­raine Brymer. Melinda Stevens and Lana Mat­tie pre­sented the of­fer­tory gifts. Mu­sic was pro­vided by Ty Wal­lace.

Ac­tive pall­bear­ers were Carl Grace, Doug Grace, An­gus Mat­tie, Danny Mat­tie, Don­nie Mat­tie and Eu­gene De­coste.

Honorary pall­bear­ers were Gary Mat­tie, Luke Mat­tie, Blair Brymer, Billy Forsythe, Daniel

Macdon­ald, Cedric Maceach­ern and Ray Maceach­ern.

Born Novem­ber 9, 1956, in Antigo­nish he was a son of Mary (Grace) Mat­tie and the late Thomas Mat­tie. His fo­cus was pro­vid­ing for his fam­ily, as a heavy equip­ment op­er­a­tor, for more than 40 years. He had a pas­sion for life and de­lighted in his camps, both Spring­field and Guys­bor­ough.

Be­sides his mother, he is sur­vived by his wife of 42 years, Mar­i­lyn (Macdon­ald) Mat­tie; two sons, Michael (Alissa), Brian (Chelsea); two grand­chil­dren, Cade, Aria; four broth­ers, An­gus (Val­lerie) Mat­tie, Gary (He­len) Mat­tie, Danny (Dar­lene) Mat­tie, Don­nie (Wil­lam­ina) Mat­tie; two sis­ters, Eleanor (Eu­gene) De­coste, Lor­raine (Blair) Brymer; mother-in-law, Irene Macdon­ald; many aunts, un­cles, nieces, neph­ews; four god­chil­dren.

He was pre­de­ceased by god­child, Donna Marie Grace; fa­therin-law, Wal­ter Dan Macdon­ald; grand­par­ents ET and Lena Mat­tie, An­gus and Mar­garet Grace.
