Town of Antigo­nish wel­comes new hire

The Town of Antigo­nish an­nounced to­day that Kate Gor­man is the suc­cess­ful can­di­date in a re­cent com­pe­ti­tion to fill the mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s new po­si­tion of mar­ket­ing and com­mu­ni­ca­tions of­fi­cer.

In her role, Gor­man will be re­spon­si­ble for pro­mot­ing the Town of Antigo­nish as a tourism des­ti­na­tion, as well as an ex­cel­lent place for busi­ness de­vel­op­ment and new in­vest­ment.

Gor­man will as­sume re­spon­si­bil­ity of the role on Oct. 1. She will work along­side busi­ness, tourism and eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment part­ners to en­hance and cre­ate new op­por­tu­ni­ties for longterm sus­tain­abil­ity and eco­nomic growth.

“This is an es­sen­tial po­si­tion for the mu­nic­i­pal­ity as we move into new phases of de­vel­op­ment that will cre­ate pos­i­tive op­por­tu­ni­ties for the Town of Antigo­nish. The ad­di­tion of this po­si­tion will al­low the town to be a more col­lab­o­ra­tive unit as we seek to grow and ex­pand our reach,” Jeff Lawrence, Chief Ad­min­is­tra­tive Of­fi­cer for the Town of Antigo­nish, said.

“Kate has demon­strated that she is a ca­pa­ble pro­fes­sional with valu­able ex­pe­ri­ence work­ing in ar­eas re­lated to eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment and com­mu­nity ad­vance­ment. Her strong back­ground in event co­or­di­na­tion and strate­gic com­mu­ni­ca­tions will con­trib­ute to the on­go­ing ef­forts be­ing put for­ward to shape a more vi­brant and pos­i­tive busi­ness cli­mate for the Town of Antigo­nish.”

Gor­man was born and raised in Antigo­nish and pur­sued her Bach­e­lor of Pub­lic Re­la­tion’s de­gree at Mount Saint Vin­cent Univer­sity in Hal­i­fax. Af­ter grad­u­a­tion in 2014, Gor­man launched her ca­reer as the com­mu­ni­ca­tions and mar­ket­ing co-or­di­na­tor with the Cape Bre­ton Part­ner­ship in Syd­ney.
